A Viking intruder!

Year 6 started their Viking topic with a ‘Bang!’ whilst learning about the Viking invasion of Lindisfarne, AD 793. On Monday morning, the children visited the ‘monastery’, which had been set up in the hall, and used drama to act as the monks that would have lived at Lindisfarne all those years ago. Some children planted flowers, others peacefully read literature or painted illuminated letters, whilst others completed monk-like duties such as cleaning or setting up cutlery ready for their meal time. Miss Jones and Miss Palmer then arranged for a mischievous ‘Viking’ to cause chaos at the children’s peaceful monastery. He stole precious coins, ripped their letters, pulled out their beautifully potted plants, claiming the monastery as his, much like the event that took place in AD 793! The children were shocked and excited by what was going on. Luckily, the Viking stayed long enough for the children to interview him and subsequently create TV news reports on the invasion!
